WorkFirst NJ emphasizes work as the first step towards building a new life and a better future. The goal is to assist people in securing employment and becoming economically self-sufficient through job training, education, and work activities. WFNJ provides families with cash assistance and other support services through TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). New Jersey also has a program for single adults and couples without children known as WorkFirst New Jersey General Assistance (GA). Work First New Jersey Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
The WFNJ TANF Program is New Jersey’s assistance program for families. This program promotes personal responsibility and instills dignity, self-sufficiency, and pride through work. By strictly enforcing child support obligations from legally responsible relatives, this program reinforces all parents’ responsibility for their children. Recipients are required to participate in a work-related activity. This activity is coordinated by the Passaic County Board of Social Services and the Passaic County One-Stop Career Center.
